The Four Agreements

by Don Miguel Ruiz

One of the most succinct and effective manuals for personal conduct I have been able to uncover. This book provides the base for creating a moral center and should be read and scanned through regularly. The premise is that all of us are conditioned, or “programmed” to be in the image of the influential figures around us — parents, teachers, priests. Don Miguel Ruiz encourages us to unlearn what we think we know and tries to give us a chance to imagine our reality for ourselves. His recipe for liberation is to make four simple agreements with ourselves.

A Short History of Nearly Everything

by Bill Bryson

This book is about what’s happened from the time (if there is such a linear thing) of the Big Bang (if there ever were one) and now (now is of course now gone), and how humans were actually able to figure it out. It’s about the genius, the luck, the mishaps, the brilliance and the daftness that has brought science to its unfathomable high of today… only to realize that we have barely taken the first step of the 1000 mile journey. This book will provide a lot of (it’s 17 hours long if you choose to listen to it) dense sustenance for the curious. An amazing collection of nearly everything.
